My favorite song is “Statues” by Alexandre Desplat

This is what I looked like today standing still and spinning. I think this outfit, and variations of it, will be reoccurring for me this fall and early winter. It’s warm and fun, and includes some of my favorite articles of clothing.

I also enjoy drawing little eyelash-lines under my eyes. They make me feel like an ugly, old-fashioned china doll. I love it! It puts eyeliner to good use.

Here’s a close-up of the fabrics. I love the shirt and skirt prints together.

Also, the title is true, and here’s a video of it because i don’t know how to attach a music file to a blog post. If you recognize it I will be your friend. I feel super emotional whenever i hear it and i have to hold back tears. Some song do that to you.

The songs that really touch me musically (queue the “aww”s)  are: “One Wing” by Wilco, “I Will Follow Him” from The Sister Act, that violin solo in “Spring” from The 4 Seasons by Vivaldi, and the song mentioned in the title. I don’t know why, but whenever i hear them I feel really sentimental.Actually, I will be your SUPER friend if you recognize all of these!

Fun fact: Memebase (part of the Cheezburger network) uses WordPress as a template. Who knew?

lumos, nox

I have changed my moodboard since school started yesterday. I wore my grey asymmetrical long skirt and a yellow tee shirt (toned down enough for you, parents?) I’m kind of going more for the pretty, light fall colors (off-white wool, etc) instead of that old witch-vibe-filled goodness that took the name of my late August. I also want to get a knitted beret because they are very flattering and pointless. They look good on everyone.

This is also the season for wavy light-brown hair, feathery bangs and side braids.  (She kind of looks like an elf or a nymph, doesn’t she?)

Six pennies, all in a row

I thought I’d share this little 3D moodboard/shrine I have to represent how I want to dress this fall. It consists of my ki

ndergarten picture, some primary-colored fabric scraps, books, a stuffed animal crammed into a jar, a candle. a highlighter, a kaleidoscope, some old photographs in cheesy frames… you get the idea. I’ll just let you look. Terrible lighting and photo quality courtesy of photobooth, because I’m too lazy to find my camera charger. Isn’t that what summer is all about?

I’m in the bottom row, second from the left. Adorable, no?

I’m just a wee bit embarrassed to own that mini Glee whiteboard. Do those intelligent books make up for it? What about the tiara?

Oh, I didn’t die- I should be satisfied

Today was day #3 of my fashion design and construction class at RISD. Yesterday we just watched some fashion shows (sadly, some were not new to me. I should stop checking so much and it won’t happen! :( ) and decorated our portfolios with fashion magazines. Not much, but it was day one. Then we learned the proper way to sketch models when drawing clothing on them and we were assigned themes to design outfits for, which was harder. Today we brought in a piece of clothing and basically maimed it and tommorow we’re putting it back together and then making an exact copy with different fabric! Eee! I don’t have a sewing machine yet and this is going to be refreshing!

I also made a few things today, including fishnet/lace armwarmers, a tulle cuff of sorts, and a bouquet of plastic wristbands made into a pin.

I also jumped back into the blogosphere. My viewers had gone down by 70% while I was at camp and I started to reconnect with some people and read some more blogs. My daily reads are usually Tavi, Self-Constructed-Freak, Quirky Explosion, and A Witch’s Style, but now I’m starting to read more than that. Eep, I’m gonna need a bigger blogroll!

Unknown, unknown but of Jeff Tweedy, Tavi, FRUiTs, Paper or Plastic?, me (work in progress), and me.

I finally organized my closet, too. The following picture of Narnia doesn’t even include my dresser drawers. I never realized how many clothes I had! Most are actually hand-me-downed from my mom or bought in China straight out of the factory for ubercheap, but STILLL.

Now, to make this post even longer  more exciting, here are a few pictures I liked especially from today. It’s fall couture! The first two are from Valentino, I think (please correct me if I’m wrong, my memory is like that of an old man’s goldfish) and the rest are Chanel.

The best part are those lace/tulle masks/eye-veil-thingos. I actually tried to make a purple on today until I realized it wouldn’t work with my glasses or my bangs. The third picture with the white boots reminded me of Chanel’s resort 2012 collection, except, If I remember, those had flip-flop toes and thinner heels.

Ugh, I just started to write about Alexander MQ’s show but then I remembered I already did a post about it ( so I had to go deletedeletedelete and then cried myself to sleep. Not really.

Bye, y’all!

Wearing: Sweater: Cotton On. Tee: Urumtees. Shorts: old. Shoes: Vans. Holding a popsicle.

Guess who didn’t go to the midnight premier of HP?

I had the best time in Vermont! It was amazing and it felt great to have fresh air in my lungs and a blue sky over my head. It was very inspiring of drawings and songs I created while I was there. Being in the mountains also made me realize how little people appreciate a blue sky when it’s there every day- I never realized how much of an affect the lack of it would have on me until I was trapped under it for so long. On the last day of camp, four people were chosen to hold a candle that represented each of the four elements while everyone else sobbed and sang (about the end of camp, not the candles… ahem) and I was given the “air” candle for my “appreciation of air and the sky”. That really made me think.

Anyway, I’m sorry my mom neglected to post for me. She had good intentions, she still likes you guys! She just didn’t want to mess up my blog and embarrass me. Unfortunately, that made most of you guys go away so I’m going to have to get re-connected and you can help by spreading the word about this blog! I’m sorry. I promise I don’t mean to be such a walking advertisement.

I’m very aware that it’s June, but I’m going to a new school next year and I’ve been thinking about it a lot. 8th grade is uber important! It will affect the rest of my life: my grades will affect my high school, college and then career, and because I’m not moving again after this, the friends and (hopefully not) enemies will stay with me through high school and maybe beyond. I can’t think of a year in my life that will be more important than 8th grade. Maybe my junior year of HS?

Either way, I’m going to be posting some back-to-school vibes, some of which I might have already posted., Tavi (style rookie), random Tumblr,, Lexi (quirky explosion), Bridge to Terabithia

Ahh, I love cool shoes and sharpening pencils. I also love my handwriting on the first week of school. Just writing this is making me excited for the fall- my favorite season for weather and fashion!

While I was at camp, I noticed there is no such thing as summer camp fashion, so, at the same time, there was. The lack of creativity in the way people dressed inspired creativity in general, I suppose. There was a very specific “style”: friendship bracelets and other random things strangling one arm , wearing the clothes you don’t care about getting dirty, big rainboots for easy access and to keep out mud. Here’s a little snippet of what I usually wore at camp. (My boots had holes in them and I had to throw them out.)

That’s about all I have to show you now. Just be sure to check for updates because I’m going to begin to post regularly again. As a “PS”, I am in the middle of sewing a skirt and I have just finished a bow and a belt. Here’s the belt.Eek! A few threads came loose!Details.

I’m embarrassed to…

…ask to take peoples’ photograph! It’s never been a problem for me before I got into fashion, but today I saw this woman in the airport (I was coming back from my vacation in Thaaaaiiilaaannd!) who was wearing this AMAZING floral top and these bleached jeans and gladiators and a straw hat, and she looked awesome. I just wanted to take a picture for the ruby lotus, but I was too embarrassed to ask! I wish I had now, but I can’t go back in time, so I drew a picture of the outfit. Please excuse my bad drawing skills. Does anyone have any tips on how to overcome my fear of, well, interacting with humans in this situation?

Oh, yeah… and I just got a copy of Gap Press. It’s this really thick fashion magazine that has a bunch of photos from Fashion Week in it. The captions are in English and Japanese, so I think the magazine is from Japan. This issue is for 2011/12 A/W shows in Milan and New York. My favorite show was the one by Prada.

Prada mixed 1920s femininity with the glamour from the sixties to create these outfits. They have bold colors and frilly hats, with fish-like scaly dresses. There are (fake) snakeskin boots and (fake) fur scarve-ish things draping around the models’ shoulders. It was so classy and elegant! There are more than one things in this show I would die to have. Those would probably be the reddish plastic-scaled skirt, a mustard-colored fluffy headpiece that wraps around like a bowling ball cover, and a pair of ANY of those boots. The scaly items look like if we went to the distant future and introduced the people to the style of the 1920s. It’s modern and classic at the same time. I also am falling in love with the low-waisted numbers and the oversized buttons on the coats. Here’s the article: And here are some pictures of the show.

So, that’s my review on PRADA. Tell me what you think in the comments! Have a nice day! :)
Love, Ruby
