I was looking at the blog of fellow fashion-blogger Marlena today at self-constructed-freak.blogspot.com. She taught me how to make stenciled designs on materials! i can’t wait to try it when i move back home. i m SO excited to make a shirt out of this photo:
I LUV YA KIM DEAL!!!!
yes!!!! It’s a picture of Kim Deal, and she’s going on my shirt!! EEEEE! :)
I was too sick and tired today to get dressed, so I don’t have anything else to show you. Sorry. I will promise to post something longer when I get better!
I have a cough and a runny nose and i’m tired and achey all over. my throat hurts so much. so i put on something comfy and decided that since i couldn’t leave the house, i’d put something onto the blog. so this is what i wore today for my moping-sickly-around-the-house-parade. I just got a new Merci Beaucoup dress-shirt thing from one of the little shops in the Chinese clothing markets. it was straight out of the factory, and the stitching is pretty bad, so it was cheap. i LOVE it!!!! i will wear it every day forever until it gets, um, really gross!
I combined my last 2 or something posts to create this: colorful, asymmetrical MB top and shiny nude shoes!!! yaaaayyy! PLUS, it’s really soft and warm. i wish myself a get well soon. my face looks so horrible and pale and sickly that i just cropped it out.
The stitching sucks. It will fall apart if I put it in the washing machine. Oh, well... it's awesomeness makes up for the stitching!
This picture was from a Valentino 2011 fall ready-to-wear show. I just really like the nude color so I thought I’d share.
I've always liked nude shades. They're nice because they sort of accessorize themselves. It's simple and very elegant. :)
Janis and Damian
As I was getting ready for my chess tournament today (I came in fifth!) and I realized I was the only girl competing. In both schools. So I was instantly reminded of Mean Girls, because Lindsay Lohan was the only girl on the “mathletes” in the movie, and she was surrounded by dorks. No offense, guys, but how else do I classify someone who goes to a chess tournament, finishes early and spends two hours talking about zombies? Anyway, I went through a little sort-of-goth stage this year, and so Lizzy Caplan, Janis, came to mind. She wore these dark, punk-looking clothes and a ton of eyeliner. Oh, here’s me a couple months ago wearing eyeliner! I know, it’s so embarrassing. I looked like such an “emo” wannabe.
So, back to the point, I was reminded of Janis Ian, who inspired the outfit I wore to the chess thingo. For those of you too lame to remember Mean Girls, here are some Janis pics.
In case you didn’t realize, she’s on the left in the first and last picture. Here’s what I wore today. I didn’t put on eyeliner, though, and my friends should thank me for that. It really freaked a couple of them out, as if eyeliner=suicidal or something.
Tee shirt: Gardener 10th HK. Tank: H&M Young (boys) shirt I cut up. Giant skirt-shorts: Orla Kiely. It was my mom's. Random barrettes. You couldn't see my feet so I put my shoe on the desk beside me, which were my Docs. Belt: Nordstrum.
I LOVE this collection. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it. If everything wasn’t hundreds of dollars, I would have bought it all by now!
It’s colorful and fun, and the clothes actually look really comfortable. It’s the kind of thing you would want to put on and spin around in. Here’s the video: http://www.mercibeaucoup.jp/collection/2011ss/#/video
What I love is that the designer somehow found a way to make the clothing look pastel-ish, without using the cliched actually-pastel pinks and light greens that we always think of when we think of spring. It might have something to do with the light hair of the model in the first picture, but there is definitely a creative mind behind the outfits, as well.
I’m pretty sure you can click to enlarge. Anyway, isn’t it pretty? I would definitely wear those pinkish-white pants. The reason I chose to show this picture is that I’m not to fond of super-baggy (cough cough DIAPER PANTS cough) pants, because they’re so unflattering, which most of this collection is composed of. But I believe the colors and the rest of the outfit makes up for all of those. This outfit happens to be my favorite.
I don’t really understand the bone theme, but I like it. It reminds me of that baby girl from the Flinstones… gah, I forgot her name! But she really looks like a cartoon schoolgirl, and I like that. I like how it looks solid and confident but also loose and comfortable. The socks and shoes make the outfit. They lighten it up and remind you that it is Spring. Don’t even get me started on that hair! It’s fantastic!
I needed to show both sides of this outfit because they are so different. The front looks almost South-American in some way, and the leggings remind me of 80s exercise clothes, but more ‘formal’, if putting it like that makes any sense. Again, the bone theme. I like it.
That’s all for now, folks!
Welcome to my fashion blog! It’s called the Ruby Lotus because, well, my name is Ruby, and I live in China, which has a lot of lotus flowers. This is my first post… so I don’t have very much to write about. I hope you like reading this blog! I’ve never tried blogging before, but I’ve always had an interest in fashion.
Oh, yeah. My header painting is by Alex Florschutz.
I guess I’ll start by adding a picture of myself and what I wore today. Well, see you later, when I have something interesting to say!
Bow: H&M. Top: mom’s old Wilco tee. Skirt: Vietnamese tribal skirt that I got in the street ‘shops’ in Vietnam. Boots: I don’t know, but they say “E” on the inside.
